ここでは日々のESE和訳＆解説記事の中でPick UPしたチャンクをまとめて復習します。

月曜日のPickUPチャンク
It must have taken a long time to make.
“must have＋過去分詞”は「〜だったに違いない」という過去への強い推量を表す。“It must have taken a long time to〜”で「〜するのにきっと長い時間がかかったに違いない」という感嘆・ねぎらいの表現になる。“It must take a long time.”（現在形：きっと時間がかかるに違いない）との使い分けに注意。また“must have taken”の部分はhave＋過去分詞のため”must have took”は誤り。
日常会話での応用表現
– This report is incredibly detailed. It must have taken a long time to put together. Thank you so much for your hard work.
– Wow, this analysis covers every angle. It must have taken a long time to go through all that data.
– This carving is incredible — every detail is perfect. It must have taken a long time to create something like this.
– This dish is so beautifully presented. It must have taken a long time to prepare everything.

火曜日のPickUPチャンク
I wasn’t playing video games all day because I wanted to. I was trying to escape reality.
“escape reality”は「現実から逃げる・現実逃避をする」という意味。“escape from reality”とも言えるが”escape reality”のほうがシンプルで自然。“be trying to〜”（過去進行形）は「〜しようとしていた・気づかぬうちにそうしようとしていた」という継続的な試みや無意識の行動に使える。“escape”の後は名詞が直接続く（× escape from of reality）。
日常会話例
– Looking back, I think some team members were trying to escape reality by avoiding tough conversations. We need to create a safer space to speak up.
– I realized I was trying to escape reality by staying busy all the time. Taking proper breaks actually made me more productive.
– Honestly, I think I was trying to escape reality a little. Work had been stressful, and I needed a change of scenery.
– I used to travel just to escape reality, but now I travel to learn and grow. It feels completely different.

水曜日のPickUPチャンク
I am very patient, as long as I get my own way in the end.
“as long as〜”は「〜である限り・〜さえすれば」という条件を示す接続詞句。“if〜”（もし〜なら）と似ているが”as long as”は「その条件が継続する間はずっと」という継続性・条件の持続を強調する。“get one’s own way”は「自分の思い通りにする・自分のやり方を通す」という慣用表現。条件節の中ではwillを使わないことにも注意（× as long as I will get / ○ as long as I get）。“as far as”（〜する限り・〜に関する限り）は範囲・程度を示す別の表現なので混同しないこと。
日常会話への応用
– I’m open to adjusting the timeline, as long as the final quality meets our standards. Please share your updated plan.
– We’re happy to proceed with the deal, as long as both sides agree on the payment terms.
– I’m fine with any destination, as long as we can relax and spend quality time together as a family.
– We can skip some spots, as long as we don’t miss the main attraction. That’s the one we came all this way for!
