月曜日のPickUPチャンク
Phew! I made it just in time.
“make it just in time”は「ぎりぎり間に合う」という意味で、締め切り・電車・イベントなどに間一髪で間に合ったときに使う表現。“in time”（ある期限までに間に合う）と“on time”（定刻通り）の違いに注意。“just”が「ぎりぎり」という際どさをさらに強調。“make it”単独でも「うまくいく・参加できる」（例：I can’t make it to the meeting.）という意味で使える。
日常会話での応用表現
– Sorry for the delay — I made it just in time. The connection was unstable, but we’re good to go now.
– We made it just in time. The report was submitted to the client at 4:58, two minutes before the deadline.
– Phew! We made it just in time. I thought we were going to miss the last train to the hotel!
– We made it just in time — the line hasn’t formed yet. Let’s get a table before it gets crowded.

火曜日のPickUPチャンク
I was trying too hard to be a good leader for you.
“try too hard to〜”は「〜しようと頑張りすぎる」という意味で、努力が過剰になって空回りしてしまうことを表す。“try hard”（一生懸命努力する）は肯定的だが、“try too hard”になると「力みすぎ・やりすぎ」というニュアンスが加わる。“too hard”のtooは否定的なニュアンスを持つため、”try very hard”（非常に一生懸命：肯定）とは意味が異なる点に注意。
日常会話例
– I think I was trying too hard to impress the team with results. Maybe I should focus more on building trust first.
– I realized I was trying too hard to cover every detail. Next time, I’ll keep it simpler so the key message comes through more clearly.
– I think I was trying too hard to get the perfect shot. From now on, I’ll just enjoy the view and take pictures naturally.
– I was trying too hard to speak French and it just didn’t work. English was fine all along!

水曜日のPickUPチャンク
Because of her book, some people decided to take action.
“take action”は「行動を起こす・行動に移す」という意味。”do something”や”act”より「問題を認識したうえで意図的・積極的に対処のための行動を起こす」という決意・能動性のニュアンスが強い。“take action on〜”（〜について行動を起こす）・“take action against〜”（〜に対して対抗措置を取る）のように前置詞を続けて対象を明示することも可能。“take an action”とはしない点に注意（anをつけない）。
日常会話への応用
– We’ve identified the issue in the production line. We need to take action immediately to prevent further defects from reaching customers.
– Our carbon emissions have increased for the third year in a row. I think it’s time we took action on our supply chain practices.
– My bag was stolen at the station. I need to take action right away — can you help me contact the police?
– We can all take action to protect places like this. Even small things, like picking up trash, make a big difference.
